Dior : WYSIWYG CMS for CD-ROMs

2007

Context : No internet in stores. Collection presentations were delivered on physical CD‑ROMs, burned and shipped worldwide. Trilingual coordination (FR/EN/JP) between marketing teams and external translators – logistically heavy.

Technical challenge : Online Flash used server‑side XML, but offline, the Flash player couldn’t read local XML (sandbox, encoding, performance issues). Direct web‑to‑CD export was impossible.

Solution & impact : Web‑based WYSIWYG CMS with separate access for marketing and translators. PHP export engine converting XML into URL‑encoded flat files readable via loadVariables() – the only reliable offline method – rewriting absolute paths to relative ones, and generating all three language builds simultaneously.

Result : faster updates, globally unified messaging, full local team autonomy.
